Question 1

What is a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress is a natural and organic hybrid mattress made with materials like organic cotton, natural wool, natural latex, and individually wrapped steel coils. Birch is made by the same company behind Helix and is designed for shoppers who want to avoid synthetic foams and chemical flame retardants. The result is a breathable, responsive mattress with a supportive feel.

Question 2

What materials are in a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress uses an organic cotton cover, a layer of natural wool that acts as a fire barrier and helps regulate temperature, natural Talalay latex for cushioning and responsiveness, and a base of pocketed coils for support. These materials are chosen for breathability and durability, and the brand highlights third-party certifications for its organic and natural components. There is no memory foam in the construction.

Question 3

How firm is a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

The Birch Natural mattress is generally considered medium-firm, which suits back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and many combination sleepers. Because latex is more buoyant than memory foam, the mattress feels supportive and easy to move on rather than sink-in soft. Side sleepers who want a plusher surface can look at the Birch Luxe, which adds an extra pillow top layer for more cushioning.

Question 4

Is a Birch mattress good for hot sleepers?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a Birch mattress tends to sleep cooler than most foam mattresses because natural latex has an open cell structure, wool wicks moisture, and the coil layer allows air to flow through the mattress. None of the materials hold heat the way dense memory foam can. Hot sleepers who also want natural materials often find Birch a strong fit.

Question 5

What is the difference between the Birch Natural and Birch Luxe mattress?

Accepted Answer

The Birch Natural is the standard model with a medium-firm feel, while the Birch Luxe is a taller, plusher version with an added organic cotton and wool pillow top and zoned coil support. The Luxe feels a bit softer on the surface and offers more pressure relief for side sleepers. Mattress Warehouse carries Birch mattresses so shoppers can compare both feels in person.
