Question 1

What comes in a bed sheet set?

Accepted Answer

A standard bed sheet set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and one or two pillowcases depending on the size. Twin and twin XL sets usually come with one pillowcase, while full, queen, and king sets typically include two. Blankets, comforters, and duvet covers are sold separately, so shoppers building a full bed setup will usually pair a sheet set with a blanket or comforter.

Question 2

Does thread count matter for bed sheets?

Accepted Answer

Thread count matters less than many shoppers assume. It measures the number of threads per square inch, and sheets in the 200 to 400 range made from quality long-staple cotton often feel better than very high counts made from thinner threads. Fiber type and weave have a bigger effect on softness, breathability, and durability, so it helps to look at those first and treat thread count as one factor among several.

Question 3

What is the difference between percale and sateen bed sheets?

Accepted Answer

Percale and sateen are two weaves used for cotton bed sheets. Percale has a simple one-over-one-under weave that feels crisp, cool, and matte, similar to a pressed dress shirt. Sateen uses a weave that places more threads on the surface, giving it a smooth, silky feel and slight sheen with a bit more warmth. Hot sleepers often prefer percale, while people who like a softer drape tend to choose sateen.

Question 4

How do I make sure bed sheets fit my mattress?

Accepted Answer

Match the sheet size to the mattress size first, then check pocket depth. Standard fitted sheets fit mattresses up to about 12 to 14 inches thick, while deep-pocket and extra-deep-pocket sheets are made for taller mattresses or beds with a topper. Measuring the mattress height, including any topper, before buying helps avoid a fitted sheet that pops off the corners overnight.

Question 5

What are the best bed sheets for hot sleepers?

Accepted Answer

Breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics are the best bed sheets for hot sleepers. Cotton percale, linen, and bamboo-derived fabrics all allow air to move through the sheet and release heat, and some performance sheets use specialized fibers designed to feel cool to the touch. Mattress Warehouse carries cooling sheet sets alongside its cooling mattresses and pillows, which makes it easy to build a bed that sleeps cooler from top to bottom.
